These are the words for where you live and what's in it.

Rooms are compounds

Most room names are built from das Zimmer (room), so they're all neuter:

  • das Schlafzimmer — "sleep room", bedroom
  • das Wohnzimmer — "living room"
  • das Badezimmer — "bath room"

Haus or Wohnung?

das Haus is a house; most city dwellers live in eine Wohnung, a flat or apartment.

zu Hause or nach Hause?

  • Ich bin zu Hause. — I'm at home (where you are).
  • Ich gehe nach Hause. — I'm going home (where you're going).
