Common German adjectives
Most of the adjectives in this deck come in opposite pairs, which makes them easier to learn together: groß – klein, neu – alt, schnell – langsam.
Two meanings each
- groß — big, and tall for people
- schwer — heavy, and difficult
- leicht — light, and easy
Endings only before a noun
After sein an adjective never changes: Das Haus ist alt. Before a noun it takes an ending: ein altes Haus. The example sentences show both.
A false friend
schmutzig means "dirty", but sauber (clean) has nothing to do with "sober".
