French numbers

Up to sixty, it's regular

Learn one to sixteen by heart; after that the pattern is simple: dix-sept (ten-seven), vingt et un, trente-deux.

Seventy to ninety

This is where French gets creative:

Number French Literally
70 soixante-dix sixty-ten
80 quatre-vingts four twenties
90 quatre-vingt-dix four twenties and ten

So 75 is soixante-quinze (sixty-fifteen) and 99 is quatre-vingt-dix-neuf. In Belgium and Switzerland people say septante and nonante instead.

Commas and spaces

French uses a comma for decimals and a space for thousands: 2,50 € is two euros fifty, 1 000 is a thousand.
