Days, months and seasons in French

Lower case

Unlike English, French writes days and months with a small letter: lundi, janvier.

lundi or le lundi?

  • lundi — this Monday: Je commence lundi.
  • le lundi — on Mondays, every Monday: Le musée est fermé le lundi.

No preposition is needed for "on".

en for months

Months and most seasons take en: en janvier, en été, en hiver. Spring is the exception: au printemps.
