Colours in French
After the noun
Colours come after the noun in French: une voiture rouge — a red car.
They agree
A colour matches its noun in gender and number:
- un sac vert, une porte verte, des murs blancs
Colours ending in -e stay the same in the feminine: rouge, jaune, rose.
The ones that never change
Colours that are really nouns, like orange (the fruit) and marron (the chestnut), never change: des yeux marron. Nor do compound colours: une chemise bleu clair.
Asking about colour
